Our economy is influenced by public procurements, and in Sweden, public purchasing represents 17 percent of GDP. This important tool for tax-funded activities therefore requires a strategic approach to purchasing. The Government Bill “Policy for Designed Living Environment” (Bill 2017/18:110) emphasises that the central government can and must be a role model. “Policy for Designed Living Environment” takes an integrated approach to the work on the designed living environment and provides a comprehensive national architecture policy. The aim is to make the very most of what architecture and design can bring to the development of society, for the benefit and enjoyment of all. Public procurement can be an effective instrument to attaining social policy goals.
