BLOX – all of Denmark’s world of architecture, design and good ideas

BLOX is a new building and destination at the waterfront in Copenhagen. It was designed by the Dutch architectural office OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture), funded and built by Realdania. BLOX opened in May 2018.

BLOX aims to promote awareness of ongoing work in architecture and urban development as key agendas in society.

This goal is pursued through broad exhibitions at the Danish Architecture Centre (DAC) and numerous activities in the innovation hub BLOXHUB, which accommodates 500 open office spaces for companies, organisations and researches and helps develop and disseminate solutions that make cities liveable.

At the same time, the fundamental idea of the building is to invite to discussions of architecture, design and good ideas. And to serve as a new meeting place in the heart of the city where you can have a cup of coffee or enjoy a meal, play, work out, park or live.

BLOX brings the city together in new ways, linking areas that used once to be separated once. Traffic flows through the building day and night, and the new bicycle and pedestrian bridge stretches across the harbour.

BLOX has a holistic focus on sustainability and it offers vitality and attractions for citizens and visitors around the clock. The building boasts a number of environmentally sustainable features, including solar cells on the roof, insulating glass façades and connection to Copenhagen’s state-of-the-art district cooling system.
